The biggest video streaming provider in Switzerland offers live as well as on-demand streaming for TV shows, IPTV and e-learning portals. Its customers are, among others, Swiss television, the Swiss federal council, pharmaceutical companies as well as the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH).
Solutionpark uses up to three teams, with around 22 members in each, to do their recording. The teams install cameras and computers and makes sure that a 1:1 transmission of an event can happen smoothly.
Most of the recorded content is delivered directly through a high performance network from Akamai. More than 20 servers stream, transcode and send the acquired material.
New products – new challenges
Due to an increase in the number of formats, products and customers, the amount of data has constantly been growing. The previous backup solution could not secure the existing data in a reasonable time any more.
Solutionpark was therefore looking for a solution that would reduce backup and restore times. Through a recommendation they found PresSTORE.
New workflows with PresSTORE
PresSTORE´s great flexibility is the key reason why administrators enjoy working with it. A running backup process can easily be paused and backups can be customized in order to guarantee optimal availability of the live systems.
Because of the flexible licensing of functions and hardware, Solutionpark was able to integrate Archiware´s product portfolio easily into their existing workflows.
Easy backup
Solutionpark secures its data through a simple but comprehensive tape backup. An Apple MacPro is used as a backup server and a Tandberg T40 as a storage library. PresSTORE Backup2Go fully automatically secures about 30 mobile clients as well as 10 workstations. Filters help to exclude all private files from the backup process. The data is compressed, encrypted and sent to a backup server every 4 hours. This server runs PresSTORE Backup to secure 15 additional servers that are being used for production and communications.
Solutionpark keeps the tapes from 2 full backups for two weeks. About 4 TB are needed for the server backup, 1.5 TB for laptops and workstations. The tapes are secured in a fireproof data safe.
Migration with PresSTORE Archive
For long term archiving, PresSTORE Archive migrates all finished productions onto a Tandberg T40 Library and LTO-4. All data is searchable by client as well as project name. Each project has its own archive plan, which is customized to the customers´ needs. These archive tapes are also stored in the fireproof safe.
